MARKETING TO YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE

Imagine trying to attract children to a Back Yard Bible Club by offering them free spinach.  Would it work?  Probably not.  But try offering free spinach to health-conscious moms and you could get quite a response!

This is an example of the importance of targeting.  While everyone knows that candy will draw children, the desires of young working women may be less apparent.

Many of you are hoping to reach a 30-40 something woman with kids, living in a mid-sized city. Most of these women fall into Generation X. Visit the link below for information about Gen X-ers that will help you plan programs that will appeal to them.

INFORMATION ABOUT GENERATION X

OTHER TARGETED GROUPS

We encourage you to find out more about the women in your area.  Do they fit into Generation X? Do you have a unique subculture that you could target?  Perhaps your town has many military wives or women in government.  Be savvy – do your homework!  Print this DEMOGRAPHICS SURVEY  and can fill it out at your local Chamber of Commerce to find out more about the women in your area. Once you collect the information, take some time to brainstorm specific ways to apply it to your marketing and event planning. How should this information affect your location, price, invitations, and other means of advertising? What about your program—would a different style of music or a certain feature be more interesting to your group? Remember, marketing entails the entire package, from beginning to end. The quality of your program, invitations, and meeting location all affect your marketing success. Be sure each is relevant and appealing to your target audience.
