GIVE ME LIBERTY!
Liberty, Missouri—Friends of Jackson Burlison kept
asking him how he knew the Bible was true. Good thing Jackson’s grandmother
is Della Terry, a Friendship Bible Coffee Consulting Coordinator.
“It is a tremendous privilege to serve the Lord through these neighborhood
studies—to really reach the unsaved,” Della said. She’s ordered
a dozen copies of the Friendship Bible Coffee study Examine the Evidence ;
Jackson has invited 11 of his friends. The study begins Wednesday.
Pray for Della as she leads the study, and for Jackson, who just turned
16 years old, as he welcomes his friends. Pray for Jackson’s friends,
that they would grow in their understanding and knowledge of God’s
Word and of Jesus Christ. Pray also for all of Jackson’s friends to
know Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.

Posted on the morning of Tuesday, August 30, 2005HURRICANE KATRINA
Stonecroft Headquarters received a phone call late this morning from Maggie Seago, the Chair of the Slidell, Louisiana Women's Connection. Slidell is northeast of New Orleans. Here is some of what she told us:
- Maggie and her husband safely evacuated to Mississippi. However, they have heard that Slidell may be underwater
- Because of downed power lines, she has not been able to connect with other Stonecroft leaders yet
- It will be difficult to get back into New Orleans, because the condition of many bridges is uncertain
- Please continue to pray for the Seagos and other families whose lives will be dramatically changed because of the hurricane
Today, our thoughts are with those who have been affected by Hurricane Katrina. We are saddened by the loss of life and the devastating destruction that this storm has caused. Join us in prayer that God, in His loving and powerful way, will bring healing and restoration to this area. Here is some information about the outreaches of Stonecroft Ministries in each of the states in this region:
Alabama —14 outreach groups and 23 FBC Coordinators
Florida —67 outreach groups and 142 FBC Coordinators
Louisiana —14 outreach groups and 25 FBC Coordinators
Mississippi —2 outreach groups and 8 FBC Coordinators
As we have seen in times of disaster in the past, God uses Christians to reach out to hurting people. Let’s pray that He will again do so through our Planning Teams and Friendship Bible Coffee leaders during this hard time.

Posted on the morning of Monday, August 29, 2005CHECKOUT CHANGES
Kerrville, Texas—D orothy Jones’ phone rang and the caller wanted to know about finding the peace of Christ for her life. Dorothy, a Stonecroft volunteer in Texas, is always on the lookout for opportunities to tell others about the abiding love of God and His offer of salvation through His Son Jesus Christ. While at a local department store, she encountered a young woman working at a checkout. Dorothy talked with her and learned some of her story.
When Dorothy handed her one of Stonecroft’s Life Publications Longing to Escape, the young woman immediately began thumbing through it. Longing to Escape is one of nearly two dozen booklets produced by Stonecroft Ministries. All Life Publications include a direct and understandable presentation of the Gospel. Some, such as Angelique Raut’s Longing to Escape, are personal stories of salvation. The checkout woman Dorothy talked with was immediately interested.
“I know there is something else to life because I see it in your face and I’ve seen it in others,” she said. “I just wish I had some of it!” Dorothy encouraged her to read the booklet thoroughly and printed her phone number on the back. Two days later her phone rang. It was the young checkout worker. She asked how she could pray the prayer printed in the booklet. On the phone Dorothy lead her in a prayer of repentance of sin and acceptance of Jesus Christ.
The young lady was invited to start a Friendship Bible Coffee. “Isn’t God good when we are faithful to be available to those opportunities and look for every chance to make a point of contact?” Dorothy wrote recently.
Yes, God is good. We are thankful today for Dorothy’s interest in those around her and her willingness to hand out a Life Publication to share the Good News. To learn more about Stonecroft Life Publications, click here and see page 10.

Posted on the morning of Monday, August 29, 2005COUPLE'S CLUB HITS A HOME RUN
Baltimore, Maryland—In the heart of Orioles’ country, fans gathered for a “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” dinner meeting, sponsored by the Baltimore Couples’ Club. Each table’s setting included popcorn, peanuts, and Crackerjack (of course), along with a quiz on baseball facts. The Orioles graciously provided door prizes, including t-shirts, caps, posters, and tickets to a Yankees/Orioles game in September.
“What a wonderful way to have a date night out,” said Jo Knipe, Stonecroft Couples’ Club Representative. The atmosphere at the event earlier this month was festive and fun, the setting was lovely with a view of the waterfront, and the food was delicious, including a fabulous dessert buffet.
Best of all, speakers Dr. Randal Robinson, a university professor, and his wife, Janice, a former teacher, shared how they received a higher education through coping with life’s losses and the difference Jesus Christ has made in their lives.
A husband and wife both received the gift of salvation,” Jo stated, “and other couples expressed interest in becoming involved in Friendship Bible Coffee studies. Now, that’s a date night to remember!”

Posted on the morning of Thursday, August 25, 2005AWESOME ALEXANDRIA
Alexandria, Minnesota—A crew of former and current Stonecroft volunteers blanketed this town with more than 600 invitations, posters, and information about Tuesday’s Stonecroft on the Road event.
It worked.
There were 196 in attendance for the special event and 79 were women who had never attended a Stonecroft event before.
Alexandria is the site of one of four Stonecroft Fall Conferences—this one September 16-18 . Several months ago, Stonecroft Development Leader Sandy Cook began to explore opportunities to introduce Stonecroft Ministries to the women of Alexandria before the conference.
Stonecroft on the Road events are special outreaches held in areas where Stonecroft has no current established outreach group.
“We had tons of people praying,” Sandy said. “Churches were praying. The team had gone to every church in town and announced the event and put notices in several church bulletins.”
A doctor’s wife presented a feature about her special interest for Tuesday’s Stonecroft on the Road. In fact, every doctor’s wife in the area received a special invitation. Sandy spoke and God moved. Sixty-five of the women indicated to her that they had prayed with her to accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
“It was wonderful,” said Sandy.
Additionally:
- the team handed out 96 brochures for the conference next month.
- 30 women offered to help plan additional events
- 15 women signed up for a Friendship Bible Coffee—and eight of them were women who made salvation decisions Tuesday
- 36 of the women who attended claimed no church affiliation
“We are just so thankful to God. He’s amazing,” Sandy said.

Posted on the morning of Wednesday, August 24, 2005A LITTLE GLIMPSE OF THE BIG PICTURE
Santa Maria, California—We all know the purpose of a microscope, right? It’s an instrument that allows us to zoom in on an object and see the details of it with greater clarity. Let’s pretend for a minute that we’re looking through a microscope at just one area being affected by Stonecroft Ministries. We’ll focus in on the city of Santa Maria, California.
The Chair of the Santa Maria Women’s Connection, Heather Smith, said that God has been doing some exciting things in their community recently. The number of Friendship Bible Coffee studies has increased in the last two years, allowing more women to study God’s Word. For the last two months, the Planning Team has met together a week before the outreach meeting for the sole purpose of praying for those who will be attending the meeting. They haven’t had their August meeting yet, but in July a number of attendees accepted God’s gift of salvation!
At an outreach meeting in the spring, the speaker, Maria Cuenco-Ursu, prayed that 10% of the attendees would pray to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior. Seventy-seven women attended, and eight of those women did pray with Maria that day!
Hasn’t it been fun to take a little closer look at the big picture? Just think—every day God is working in similar ways throughout the United States, Canada, and the world.

Posted on the morning of Tuesday, August 23, 2005ALASKAN ADVENTURE
Wasilla, Alaska—When Stonecroft Regional Administrator Karon Heineman and her husband Paul began planning their summer vacation in Alaska, Karon anticipated lots of sightseeing as well as opportunities to speak for the Stonecroft outreach groups there. She didn’t know that Paul thought a different vacation plan would be fun—serving as a host and caretaker at an Alaskan state park. But God encouraged Karon’s heart to accept this as a different kind of adventure and she agreed.
July found them serving at the Willow Creek State Recreational Area, located between Fairbanks and Anchorage. One evening after visiting with a couple from North Dakota who had been doing a great deal of salmon fishing, Karon had an idea. Perhaps that “fishing widow” would enjoy the opportunity to attend the women’s luncheon in Wasilla where Karon would be speaking. She issued the invitation and the woman happily accepted.
“It was her first time to attend a Stonecroft function and the program was so well planned,” Karon remembers. “The special feature was an artist and the theme of my story centered around my experiences as a novice oil painter. God’s Holy Spirit had made my guest’s heart tender that day and she was the first one to the door to indicate she had made a decision for Christ that day.
“God went to such detail to insure that this woman would become His child. He arranged for us to be caretakers at Willow Creek; He caused this couple—first time visitors to Alaska—to stop at that campground and visit with us; He planted the idea to invite her in my mind; He gave her an excitement to attend the meeting and then He just loved her right into His family. There were several responses to God’s love that day, but I know this one in particular was the adventure God had planned for me. No one else would have invited her to that luncheon that day. We serve an awesome God of infinite detail. Praise Him!”
Karon’s challenge to others: when you feel God prompting you to invite someone to a Stonecroft outreach meeting, don’t hesitate. You may be God’s only available instrument in bringing her to a place where her heart can be won for eternity.

Posted on the morning of Monday, August 22, 2005THE ULTIMATE SUMMER GET-AWAY
Folsom, California—The invitation read: “Come for a peaceful respite, refreshing brunch, fellowship, music, and a soothing time of prayer in a home so beautiful that it has been used in movies, TV, and commercials.” Twenty-eight women accepted the invitation and gathered for a summer get-away with God in a lovely setting overlooking Folsom Lake. For about one-third of the guests, this was the first Stonecroft-sponsored event they had ever attended.
The theme for the morning was “Life’s Journeys.” After time spent getting acquainted with each other, enjoying delicious brunch items, and learning more about Stonecroft Ministries, the women joined together for a time of praise and worship. Then they divided into smaller groups for intercessory prayer. “We were able to bring our focus on our almighty God, in spite of all the earthly treats around us,” said Stonecroft Prayer Consultant Ann Herman, who coordinated the event. “The enthusiasm and participation were great. It was a wonderful morning!”

Posted on the morning of Friday, August 19, 2005REJOICING IN NEW JERSEY
Ocean City, New Jersey—Each Stonecroft outreach group faces its own set of challenges. That’s part of the territory serving in ministry. Sometimes there are vacancies on the Planning Team. Sometimes it’s hard to find an appealing meeting place at an affordable price.
But women in the Ocean City, New Jersey Christian Women’s Club are rejoicing at how God has provided for them as they have prayed and persevered.
- Nursery helpers and a suitable nursery location have been secured.
- When their meeting place closed for renovation, God provided a new place with a reputation for great food. Though the location was a bit remote, more guests are attending than ever!
- The group is able offer a two for one lunch price for first-timers, which has greatly increased the number for first-timers at each meeting.
- At their August meeting, the restaurant was filled to capacity and 10 women made decisions for Christ!
The shores of New Jersey are sounding with waves of praise as this area thanks God for His wonderful provision.

Posted on the morning of Wednesday, August 17, 2005ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Plains, Montana—Monday in this small western Montana town, Stonecroft Ministries welcomed 102 visitors to a special Stonecroft on the Road event.
Stonecroft on the Road specialists Pat Abernathy and Sandi Ausland joined with Planning Team members from established outreach groups in Polson, Kalispell, and Missoula to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the women of Plains.
Plains, population 1,100, is nestled between the Clark River and the Burlington Railroad. Monday's event, a dessert buffet, was held at the local fairgrounds. Pat presented the feature on faux painting and decorating ideas, and Sandi presented the Gospel. Eighteen women prayed to receive Jesus Christ as their Savior.
Stonecroft on the Road events are special outreaches held in areas where Stonecroft has no established outreach group. To date, 23 Stonecroft on the Road events have been held with a total attendance of 1,170 women. From these “one-time” events, six new permanent outreach groups have been established. Best of all, 100 individuals have made personal commitments to Jesus Christ.

Posted on the morning of Tuesday, August 16, 2005PRAYER MAKES A DIFFERENCE
Corpus Christi, Texas—When Planning Team members from this Christian Business & Professional Women’s group met at a local restaurant for prayer time, their activity was observed by other customers. A man and his wife approached the group, stated they noticed the women praying, and asked if they took prayer requests. The husband stated that his brother was facing cancer surgery that week and he asked the women to pray for him. They immediately took the request to God in prayer.
The next week, when one of the Planning Team members was at the restaurant, the manager asked to speak to her. The man who had requested prayer had left a message for the women in the group. He wanted them to know that when his brother went in for surgery, the doctors could not find any cancer! The family knew that prayer had been effective and they sent a heartfelt thank you to the women who prayed.
We are praising the Lord,” stated Chair Debra Bartram. “What an awesome testimony of God’s healing power—not only to this family, but also to the restaurant manager and his staff.”

Posted on the morning of Monday, August 15 2005SET FREE
Crescent City, California—Pelican Bay State Prison seems an unlikely setting for hope. This ultra-high security facility is often characterized as housing “the worst of the worst” of California’s inmates. Now, a Friendship Bible Coffee study is providing one more avenue for the light of God’s Word to shine in this dark and desperate place.
God placed the desire for a Bible study at the prison in Consulting Coordinator Gale Lakey’s heart more than two years ago as she prayed for Friendship Bible Coffee expansion. She lives just 20 minutes from Pelican Bay and knows the great spiritual need there. But it takes much prayer and persistence to obtain approval and a male Guide who has a heart for prison ministry.
After Gale met with the prison chaplain and presented Friendship Bible Coffees, the studies were approved because they were non-denominational. Jamie Herring, a retired school teacher/principal who previously had been a volunteer in the prison ministry, became the Guide.
It took quite awhile to begin a study due to prior plans in place, red tape, and lockdowns, but the inmates recently finished "Know the Truth." Twelve inmates attended the first lesson and got so excited about the study they begged Jamie for more study books and Bibles to take back to their cellmates. The second lesson brought even more inmates and, after the closing prayer, they all stood and applauded. “These men are so hungry for God’s Word,” said Jamie, “and the lessons explain things so clearly that they can grasp it and want more and more.” The group increased to twenty-seven inmates by the final sessions.
God’s Word ministered to hungry hearts and, in that most unlikely setting for hope, twelve inmates were set free from sin by receiving the good news of salvation! “Nothing is impossible for our awesome God!” said Gale.
Tentative plans are in place for Jamie to guide "Who Is Jesus?" in September.

Posted on the morning of Friday, August 12 2005AN IRRESISTIBLE LUNCHEON
Brainerd, Minnesota—Last month, the Brainerd, MN Women’s Connection encouraged women to come to their luncheon by tempting their taste buds. For the luncheon program, they invited Cold Stone Creamery (an ice cream store) as a feature and had homemade cookies for sale on the tables as centerpieces.
As the RSVPs flew in, the Planning Team knew God was doing great things. He brought 171 women that day—the highest number the group has ever had! He also used speaker Emily Firnstahl to present a compelling Gospel presentation, and 31 women prayed to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior.
Sheila DeChantal, the Chair of the group, says, “We simply put together a program, God brought the ladies, and wow! That will be an event I will not soon forget!”

Posted on the morning of Thursday, August 11 2005NEW LIFE FROM DEVASTATION
India—The killer tsunami that rose from the Indian Ocean on December 26, 2004, devastated hundreds of thousands of lives. But today in southern India, gentle waves of encouragement and hope are being felt by tsunami victims.
In one refugee camp of women and children, leaders from Stonecroft Ministries in India are providing practical help, such as food and medicine, and spiritual encouragement. Using Stonecroft Life Publications booklets and Friendship Bible Coffee studies, Annamma Varghese and other “lady evangelists” spread the good news of Jesus and bring hope in the midst of devastation.
“When we share from the Word of God, many want to know more about Christ,” said Annamma. At a recent gospel meeting at the camp, several people accepted Jesus as Savior.
As the long slow work of recovery continues, please remember to pray for those in tsunami-affected areas. Pray too for the thousands affected by recent monsoonal flooding around Bombay. The physical and spiritual needs are great, but so are the power, love, and grace of our God!

Posted on the morning of Tuesday, August 9 2005HAVING A BLAST IN A BOOM TOWN
Pinedale, Wyoming—Not far from Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks lies the tiny, but growing, town of Pinedale, Wyoming. With energy prices on the rise, Pinedale, located near a very profitable natural gas field, has recently experienced a booming economy.
Mary Adams, a Stonecroft National Representative, is currently working in Pinedale to start a new Christian Women’s Club. The first meeting was on August 2, and Mary said it was the “buzz of the town” the next few days.
Forty-five guests attended, and for about 30 of them, this was their first Stonecroft-sponsored event. The guests included a number of moms, and the nursery was filled with 14 children. Most exciting, when given a chance to pray with the speaker to accept Christ, at least 12 women seized the opportunity!
Reservations are already coming in for the next meeting, a “Ladies’ Night Out” that will feature spa treatments, such as neck and back massage, nail polishing, color analysis, and skin care tips. Not just the economy in Pinedale is booming—so is the anticipation of what God will continue to do in the lives of people there.

Posted on the morning of Monday, August 8 2005REFRESHMENT IN CLATSKANIE
Clatskanie, Oregon—Today, a group of women are meeting in the park in Clatskanie for the fifth lesson in their Friendship Bible Coffee study. But this study really got its start at the July 4th Heritage Days celebration.
At the festival, local Stonecroft leaders offered physical and spiritual refreshment to attendees. Besides distributing free bottles of water, they offered a gift bag filled with goodies to women who stopped by their display. The bags included candy, a tea bag, an informational brochure about Stonecroft Ministries, invitations and information from the local outreach groups, and a Stonecroft Life Publications booklet. Women were also given an invitation to join a Friendship Bible Coffee study that was scheduled to begin the next week in the park.
The distribution was a success. Fourteen cases of water were given away and 200 gift bags found their way into eager hands. Best of all, 16 women indicated an interest in gathering in the park to study Connecting with God—A Guide to Prayer. Many of these women are new to Friendship Bible Coffees and received their first invitation at Heritage Days.
“As a result of our display booth, the town is much more aware of what Stonecroft Ministries has to offer,” commented Stonecroft Development Leader Faye Miller. “I think the multiplication of Friendship Bible Coffees will be another exciting result of this exposure.

Posted on the morning of Friday, August 5 2005JESUS HAS GIVEN US HOPE
Uganda—“In Uganda, we see so much poverty, so much disease—but Jesus has given us hope,” stated Friendship Bible Coffee Coordinator Monique Mubiru.
Monique’s journey to faith came at a time of hopelessness in her own life. After her father was killed by dictator Idi Amin’s soldiers, she said, “There was a hole in my life.” The hurt was so great, she tried to fill that hole with tears, despair, and thoughts of suicide. Through the influence of Christian friends in her nursing class, Monique first heard about a personal relationship with Jesus. When she invited Him into her life, immediately that enormous emptiness was filled with hope.
Today, Monique and her pastor husband, John, are reaching out to others with the hope of Jesus. They travel to villages to hold evangelistic meetings. Through Stonecroft Stonecroft Bible Studies, they mentor and nurture the believers in their church. They also established a sponsorship program to provide schooling for impoverished children who cannot afford school fees and they are currently building a medical center, appropriately named Ray of Hope.
“We still have a long way to go, but God is with us,” Monique affirms. “We are seeing God bring light to this country.”

Posted on the morning of Thursday, August 4 2005BLESSINGS IN BOTHELL
Bothell, Washington—Tuesday afternoon, the Mill Creek, Washington, Christian Women’s Club and the local Friendship Bible Coffee leadership launched a Bible study in the wake of a July outreach event.
Five of the women at the Bible study had prayed to receive Jesus Christ as their Savior during the outreach event. Tuesday, that study began with District Consulting Coordinator Elaine Burnett as the Guide. She said two of the women are completely unfamiliar with the Bible and she is thankful for the way Friendship Bible Coffee studies refer to page numbers in the Good News New Testament—supplied to every study participant.
“How exciting it is to see people discover how God's Word applies to their lives,” Elaine wrote. “I'm still praising our wonderful God!”
This is how it works.
"What happened in Mill Creek happens all over the world every week," said Paula Hughes, Stonecroft's Director of Ministries. "We pray for God to move, then invite women in our community to an outreach event, present them with the Gospel, and give them a chance to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior. Then, we immediately encourage them to participate in a Bible study to begin growing their knowledge of God's Word and His Son.
“When we get to hear about it, it gives us a chance to praise God for what He is doing. Isn’t it a privilege to be part of such a great ministry!”

Posted on the morning of Wednesday, August 3 2005LOOK WHAT'S DEVELOPING IN MICHIGAN
Shelby Township, Michigan—Stonecroft Development Leaders are women with a vision for ministry in their areas. They have a desire to see new Friendship Bible Coffee studies grow and new outreach ministry launched.
One Development Leader in Michigan, Bev Tunks, had a thriving Friendship Bible Coffee ministry in her area. But Bev’s heart was saddened by the fact that there was no active outreach group providing an opportunity for women to hear about Jesus.
In January, she introduced the idea of an outreach group to the women involved in Bible studies. Then, for the next few months, they continued to meet together to pray and plan. The first outreach meeting was scheduled for May.
On May 12, the Stony Creek After 5 in Shelby Township was launched. 110 women attended that meeting and 29 made decisions for Christ. The special feature guest, who hosts a TV cooking show, enjoyed the evening and publicized the event on her TV show and her website.
The group had its second meeting on July 14. God blessed again in answer to prayer with 105 in attendance and 31 women who trusted Jesus Christ as Savior.
Bev commented, “As we move ahead with plans for the future, I trust those events will be even better than the memories we have from those we have already experienced. We always remember, we plan each event with the purpose of reaching women for Christ. "

Milford, Delaware—Seven new Friendship Bible Coffee study Guides were trained Saturday in Milford, Delaware. Two Guides begin studies this month.
The push for additional evangelistic Bible studies began when one woman researched Stonecroft Ministries on its website. After contacting other local women who desire to make Jesus Christ known, she then called Stonecroft Ministries headquarters to request assistance in starting a new outreach group.
There are six active Stonecroft outreach groups in Delaware. The closest one to Milford is in the state capitol, Dover, 25 miles away. To begin a new group, the women of Milford were encouraged to start outreach through Bible studies.
Saturday, Consulting Coordinator Donna Chappell held the training session. Now, seven women are ready to start evangelistic Bible studies in the area.

Posted on the morning of Monday, August 1 2005MEETING IN THE MIDDLE
Rifle, Colorado—This mountain town sits in a valley between two mountain ranges and between two towns with established Stonecroft outreach groups—Glenwood Springs and Parachute. Recently, the women on the Planning Teams for these two groups banded together with local women from Rifle who wanted to reach their community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Invitations were handed out and sponsors supported the event. This joint meeting by the two outreach groups was a great success! Ninety-seven women attended, and thirty-six of them had never been to a Stonecroft event before. In addition, three Friendship Bible Coffee studies were started. The best news of all was that new lives were begun, as 10 guests prayed with the speaker, making Jesus Christ their Lord and Savior.
